Human 3D Vision

The human visual system is complex and far from completely understood. Even so there are many scientific results about binocular vision which are helpful in understanding what 3D displays are useful for and that can help us define what makes a good quality 3D image.

Users of 2D imaging systems have had many years to develop an understanding of technical quality, the 3D equivalent is not so well developed. It is clear that amazing images can be generated and yet, at the same time, the vision system is very sensitive to small errors in 3D images.

The pages on the left summarise research into some of the interesting and frequently asked questions relating to human binocular viewing of 3D displays.
